If you've had an email about a .au domain saying "correction required", "invalid registrant" or "days remaining", the registry has found a problem with who the domain is registered to. Fix it before the deadline in the email, or the domain can be suspended. A suspended domain stops your website and email.
Why this happens
auDA, which runs .au domains, requires every .au domain to be held by an eligible Australian entity. For most businesses that means the ABN or ACN on the domain must be active and must match the business that holds the domain. The most common problems are:
- the ABN on the domain has been cancelled, for example after a business restructure or sale
- the domain lists a trading name or a different company to the ABN
- the domain is registered to a person or company that no longer exists
What to do
- Check your ABN on ABN Lookup. Note the exact entity name and whether the ABN is active.
- Raise a ticket (choose Technical problem) with the domain name, the correct entity name and the active ABN or ACN.
- If the domain needs to move to a different entity, that's a change of registrant. We'll send you an approval email: approve it promptly or the change lapses. A change of registrant fee may apply.
- Watch for the confirmation email. It can take a day or two for the registry to update.
Emails you might see
- Correction required / invalid registrant, X days remaining: the countdown to suspension. Act now.
- Change of registrant requires your action: approve the change we lodged for you.
- Suspension notice: the domain is suspended. Fix the details and contact us to get it restored.
These notices may come from Domain Services, the registry service we use. They're genuine. If you're unsure whether an email is really from us, see Is this email really from OzHosting?
