How to upgrade MySQL to 5.7 (Plesk 12.5 and higher) on Centos 6

Step 1 – Stop mysql service

 

 

 

# service mysqld stop

 

 

 

Step 2 - Back up MySQL databases:

 

# mkdir /var/lib/mysqlcopy
# cp -aR /var/lib/mysql/* /var/lib/mysqlcopy

 

 

 

Step 3 - Disable Atomic repository, if it is enabled:

 

 

 

# vi /etc/yum.repos.d/atomic.repo
  enabled = 0

 

 

 

Step 4 - Install MySQL-community repository:

 

# yum install http://dev.mysql.com/get/mysql57-community-release-el6-7.noarch.rpm

 

 

 

Step 5 - Select MySQL version:

 

# vi /etc/yum.repos.d/mysql-community.repo
  [mysql56-community]
  enabled=0
  [mysql57-community]
  enabled=1

 

 

 

Step 6 – Install MySql Packages

 

# yum update mysql

 

 

 

Step 7 – Comment out line in /etc/my.cnf file

 

#innodb_additional_mem_pool_size=500K

 

 

 

Step 8 – Start MySql Service

 

# service mysqld start

 

 

 

Step 9 – Upgrade MySQL databases:

 

 

 

# MYSQL_PWD=`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` mysql_upgrade -uadmin

 

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 

 

If MySQL fails to start follow these steps

 

 

 

Step  1 – Start MySQL in safe mode

 

#mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables --user=admin

 

 

 

Step 2 – Upgrade the tables

 

#MYSQL_PWD=`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` mysql_upgrade -uadmin

 

 

 

Step 3 – Restart MySQL service

 

#service mysqld restart
